Holiday Artisan Event Features “Buy Local”

Walnut Grove Farm, a National Historic Register farmstead, is hosting its 19th annual “Christmas at Walnut Grove Farm.”  Featuring gifts from superb local artisans, wreaths, simmering foods and family fun, the event has become an established tradition during Thanksgiving weekend.  Walnut Grove Farm is located ½ mile north of Knoxville, IL on Carr Street, and will be open from 10 AM to 4 PM from Friday, November 27th through Saturday the 28th, and 11 AM to 3 PM on Sunday, November 30th.  Admission is food items for charity Christmas baskets.

Walnut Grove Farm showcases fine artistic talent of West Central Illinois while giving guests an opportunity to continue family traditions with a trip to the farm, supporting local art and entrepreneurs.  Horse-drawn wagon rides, warm food, festive music and meeting the people who create one-of-a-kind gifts have been a staple at Walnut Grove Farm for 19 years.  Chat with Old World Saint Nicholas who will arrive daily at 11 AM.  Families can kick-off the holiday season by selecting wreaths and greens to “deck the halls.”

Christmas at Walnut Grove Farm is sponsored by the event’s local artisans and takes place in an 1860’s barn.  The unique quality of this event comes from the group of local artists who make original gift items and present their wares in the barn.  Around 25 artisans from the region will be represented in this juried show.  New artisans will be joining the sponsoring group.  Author Benita Moore, gourmet chef Erin Meyer, clay artist Ann Pastucha, and basket maker David Simpson, will be featured among local artisans presenting at the 3 day event.  The offerings are diverse, ranging from gourmet chocolates and artisan Christmas cards to paintings, folk art, jewelry, herbal soaps, weaving, pottery, intarsia, painted china and photography.

“Christmas at Walnut Grove Farm is truly a tradition that gives people a real opportunity to “buy local” and support the community in a variety of ways by the purchases they make.  Coupled with meaningful gift giving and good old fashioned fun, it’s a great way to begin the holidays!  The barn is overflowing with talent.  Join us!” states Jan King, event coordinator.
